It all started in early spring of 2004 with a cargo van and an ad of Craig’s List. We called ourselves A+M Moving Service, and billed ourselves, occasionally, as the Walk-up Kings. Most of our work was in Manhattan. Through a combination of hard work, friendly, reliable service, and competitive rates, we grew, added trucks to our fleet, and began the sometimes hit-or-miss process of hiring movers. Like many small moving companies in New York City, we were reinventing the wheel when we got started. But with a business plan, a dedicated crew and a cadre of happy customers, we’ve grown into a full-service, licensed and insured moving company.

Things have changed around here since we first started. In 2008, after 4 years of excellent service in the five boroughs, we undertook federal and state licensing. First up, we had to change our name. There were two other companies calling themselves A&M, and the DOT said we had to distinguish ourselves. Brainstorming ensued. The Super Movers was available, not just through the DOT but also as a domain name. We’d be easy to find on the internet! Plus, such a name gives us something to strive for. We’re not just super movers, we’re the super movers.

And some things stayed the same—whether you found us as A+M Moving Service (we use a + sign, not an ampersand, but that’s not enough for the DOT…) or as The Super Movers, we strive to make your transition from one abode to the next seamless and simple. If you have small children, we’ll work with you to take some of the disorientation our of moving—from setting up beds or cribs promptly so your child can begin to identify his or her new space, to placing items appropriately so you can unpack quickly and settle in. We offer packing and unpacking services, box removal if you desire, and lots of tips to increase the efficiency and cost effectiveness of any move.

Price is important. That’s why every customer has the opportunity to have a free onsite estimate. It’s also why we work with you to customize the service you receive, so you only pay for what you need, and you get the services that best fit your unique circumstances.

We’re always happy to match or beat estimates you receive from other moving companies. To ask us to consider another quote, we need to see the written binding estimate you received. The company must have a verifiable NY DOT number, an ICC MC number and a US DOT number. All licensed moving companies operating within NY State must print these on their estimate forms.

As A+M Moving Service we made commitments to sustainability that have continued through our transition to The Super Movers, Inc. When we add new trucks to our fleet, they’ll be fueled with B20 biodiesel fuel, which cuts harmful emissions by 67%. Our trucks don’t idle on the job. Our office recycles 90% of its paper waste, and composts all non-chlorine shredded paper. We’ve switched to compact florescent lighting, and are looking at a partnership with the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative (our neighbor in the Columbia Waterfront Neighborhood where we’re located) to donate funds to offset our carbon use.
